RANGE OF APPLICATION
The system is based on the Archimedean screw principle and is used as a water engine for small water power plants working with asynchronous generator directly into a network. It is used for small water heads and inconstant water flow.
Hydrodynamic screw can be used as an additional motor to existing turbines (Banki, Kaplan) using the energy of spillways.
Output: up to 500 kW
Flow: 100 – 10 000 l/s
Head: 1 – 10 m
Inclination: 22 – 36°
ADVANTAGES
-
Low expenses for construction work
-
Lower costs compared with traditional turbines
-
Simple construction
-
Long working life
-
High efficiency
-
Reliability even with a small flow (at 20 % flow efficiency is 74 %)
-
Simple operation - low maintenance costs
-
Easy access to the working elements
-
Applicable to weirs
-
Works without screens and fish friendly
-
Improves oxygenation capacity and water quality
PRINCIPLE
The water flows into the spaces between flights of the screw and turns the entire length of the screw.
The water flows out of the lower end of the screw.
COMPARISON OF EFFICIENCY OF THE WATER ENGINES
DESCRIPTION
The Archimedean screw turbine is constructed similarly to the screw pump SC. The screw contains a turbine rotor which is located in the channel, the upper and lower bearing, gearbox and asynchronous generator as a source of energy in small hydro power plants.
REGULATION
The Archimedean screw water turbine does not need any special regulation. It needs only emergency gate valve and side overflow of the screw channel.
The asynchronous generator with a properly designed gearbox, ensures optimum production of electric power in the range of 10 - 100% supplying network.
Archimedes screw water turbines do not need any special regulations. It only takes a floodgate and side overflow channel.
Asynchronous generator with properly designed multiplier provides optimal energy production for el. distribution network in the range of 10 - 100% of the production capacity.
